Walking from the Dog & Partridge

There is a lovely walk directly from our car park towards Langsett Reservoir:

  1. From the car park, turn right along the footpath to the bridle path.
  2. At the bridle path, turn right and walk through the gate.
  3. Keep left through the second gate.
  4. Keep the house (the gamekeeper’s lodge) on your right.
  5. Follow the path until it forks; keep left and follow the stream (the River Don) down to the Langsett Reservoir car park.

Please close all gates and keep dogs on a lead.

Joining the Trans Pennine Trail

To join the Trans Pennine Trail from the same bridle path:

  1. After the second gate, take the second left.
  2. Follow the track down to the main road and through the cottages.
  3. Continue to the bridge and join the trail.
  4. Turn right for Penistone or left for Dunford Bridge.

From Dunford Bridge on the Trans Pennine Trail, walk up the road and follow the signs for Winscar Sailing Club. You can stroll along the dam, feed the ducks and enjoy views over the water before returning the same way.

Langsett Reservoir, on the edge of the Peak District, offers a choice of way-marked woodland and moorland routes from the main car park, as well as a full circuit around the water. Ask at the bar or reception for our latest walk leaflet or suggested routes.

Near Dunford Bridge, Winscar Reservoir has an easy circular route of around four miles with modest ascent, usually taking around two to two-and-a-half hours. It is a peaceful spot for walking, picnics and enjoying upland scenery.
