Yorkshire Sculpture Park, at West Bretton near Wakefield (WF4 4LG), is an international centre
for modern and contemporary sculpture set in 500 acres of parkland. Wander among large-scale
works by leading artists, explore galleries and enjoy woodland walks and lakeside views.
Cannon Hall Park and Gardens
Cannon Hall Park and Gardens in Cawthorne (Bark House Lane, S75 4AT) offers beautiful
parkland, formal gardens, a historic house and links to woodland and riverside walks.
You can pick up local walking maps at the Post Office opposite the antique shop in Cawthorne.
Cannon Hall Farm
Next to the park, Cannon Hall Farm is an award-winning family attraction with hundreds of
animals, indoor and outdoor play areas, a farm shop, cafés and regular events – ideal for a
full family day out.
Elsecar Heritage Centre
Elsecar Heritage Centre (Wath Road, Elsecar, Barnsley S74 8HJ) is a restored historic ironworks
village with independent shops, cafés, exhibitions and events. It’s a good choice for a relaxed
day of browsing, heritage and light walking.
Standedge Tunnel & Visitor Centre
Standedge Tunnel, on the Huddersfield Narrow Canal (Waters Road, HD7 6NQ), is one of the
wonders of the British canal network. Enjoy boat trips into the tunnel, explore the visitor
centre and take in the surrounding moorland scenery.
Chatsworth House
Chatsworth House, near Bakewell (DE45 1PP), is one of Britain’s most impressive stately homes,
set in extensive parkland with formal gardens, a farmyard and playground, cafés and shops.
It makes an excellent full-day excursion from the inn.
Bakewell
The market town of Bakewell is famous for its puddings and riverside walks. Stroll over the
old stone bridges, browse independent shops and cafés, and explore nearby trails in the Peak
District National Park.
Wentworth Woodhouse
Wentworth Woodhouse, near Rotherham (S62 7TQ), is a grand historic house with one of the
longest façades in Europe. Guided tours, exhibitions and events offer a fascinating glimpse
into its history and restoration.
Wentworth Garden Centre
Close to the house, Wentworth Garden Centre combines extensive plant displays with
walled gardens, a farm, play areas, shops and cafés – ideal for a relaxed few hours for all ages.
Local Experiences & Viewpoints
Milk from the Hills – Hoylandswaine
The Hill family have farmed in Hoylandswaine for four generations and now use a robotic milking
system for around 120 cows. Their milk is pasteurised on the farm and sold direct to the public
in reusable bottles – a fresh, sustainable and eco-friendly way to enjoy local dairy.
Hartcliff Tower (Hartcliff Folly)
South-west of Penistone, Hartcliff Tower is a 19th-century stone folly standing over 350 metres
above sea level. On clear days you can enjoy wide views across the countryside and towards the
Peak District from the surrounding footpaths.
Royd Moor Viewing Point
Royd Moor Viewing Point, near Penistone (S36 9NY), sits close to the peak of Royd Moor Hill at
around 1,000 feet above sea level. It offers sweeping 360-degree views over South and West
Yorkshire and the Peak District – a superb spot for photos and sunsets.

Penistone Pies & Puddings offers small cookery classes specialising in traditional pies
and desserts – a fun and tasty local experience to combine with your stay at the inn.
Lyndene Art Studio, Penistone
Lyndene Art Studio hosts art workshops, exhibitions and original pieces for sale by a local
artist. It’s a welcoming creative space and a good addition to a visit to Penistone or a walk
on the nearby trails.

Walking from the Dog & Partridge
There is a lovely walk directly from our car park towards Langsett Reservoir:
- From the car park, turn right along the footpath to the bridle path.
- At the bridle path, turn right and walk through the gate.
- Keep left through the second gate.
- Keep the house (the gamekeeper’s lodge) on your right.
- Follow the path until it forks; keep left and follow the stream (the River Don) down to the Langsett Reservoir car park.
Please close all gates and keep dogs on a lead.
Joining the Trans Pennine Trail
To join the Trans Pennine Trail from the same bridle path:
- After the second gate, take the second left.
- Follow the track down to the main road and through the cottages.
- Continue to the bridge and join the trail.
- Turn right for Penistone or left for Dunford Bridge.
Dunford Bridge & Winscar Reservoir
From Dunford Bridge on the Trans Pennine Trail, walk up the road and follow the signs for
Winscar Sailing Club. You can stroll along the dam, feed the ducks and enjoy views over the
water before returning the same way.
Langsett Reservoir & Walks
Langsett Reservoir, on the edge of the Peak District, offers a choice of way-marked woodland
and moorland routes from the main car park, as well as a full circuit around the water.

Winscar Reservoir Circular Walk
Near Dunford Bridge, Winscar Reservoir has an easy circular route of around four miles with
modest ascent, usually taking around two to two-and-a-half hours. It is a peaceful spot for
walking, picnics and enjoying upland scenery.

Tramlines Festival, Sheffield
Each summer, Sheffield hosts Tramlines Festival, a major city music festival featuring a mix
of local talent and well-known national acts. It’s easy to reach from the inn by road or rail
and makes a great music-filled weekend.
Meadowhall Shopping Centre
Meadowhall in Sheffield is one of the region’s leading indoor shopping centres. With hundreds
of stores, a large choice of places to eat and an 11-screen cinema, it’s perfect for a full
day of shopping and entertainment.
Picturedrome, Holmfirth
The Picturedrome is a historic former cinema dating back to 1913, now an atmospheric live music
venue. Expect a varied programme of established bands, tribute acts, festivals and fundraisers.
Penistone Paramount Cinema & Theatre
The Penistone Paramount is a community-run cinema and theatre offering new film releases, live
shows and monthly organ concerts. It is home to one of the few working theatre organs left in
the country – a unique venue for an evening out.
